Job Description

The Singapore University of Technology and Design ( SUTD ), Pillar of Engineering Systems and Design, has a fully funded PhD position in areas broadly related to water resources planning and management, such as operation of water reservoir networks, multi-objective optimization or data-driven modelling. Applicants must have a Bachelors and/or Masters degree in engineering, science or applied mathematics, with a good academic background in hydrology, statistics and/or probability. In-depth knowledge of applied systems analysis, stochastic modelling, optimization and/or control is an asset.

The start time is mid September 2015. Attractive working conditions include full tuition fees, a competitive compensation, conference funding support and opportunities for overseas research attachments. The International Max Planck Research School for Global Biogeochemical Cycles (IMPRS-gBGC) located in Jena, Germany, offers fellowships to outstanding students interested in research on biogeochemical cycles in the Earth system. The school provides excellent research possibilities for students to obtain a PhD degree in a 3-years graduate program.

The Research School
Successful applicants will be part of the IMPRS-gBGC. Research at the school focuses on the distribution of elements essential to life and the climate among the components of the Earth system and the interaction between biosphere, atmosphere, lithosphere, land and oceans.
Besides doing research for their PhD project, PhD candidates also benefit from a three-month external research visit, specialised courses in e.g. statistics, Earth observation, modelling and analytical techniques, as well as in soft skills. The school is thus an excellent starting platform for a successful career in a field related to global biogeochemical cycles and Earth System Science.

The Distributed Systems Group at the Vienna University of Technology has an open, fulltime position for a PhD student (3 years). The expected candidate will work on the recently started Horizon 2020 project "Cloud-based Rapid Elastic MAnufacturing (CREMA)" http://www.crema-project.eu/ under the supervision of Stefan Schulte and Schahram Dustdar.

The main goal of this position is to research and develop techniques and models for making Cloud manufacturing a reality, with a specific focus on Cloud technologies, their integration into business processes and application in manufacturing.

The selected candidate will be employed full time by the Vienna University of Technology. The fulltime funded PhD student will work 40 hours/week and receive a salary at level B1 (currently 2662.90 EUR/month gross, 14 times/year).
